Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit accusing him of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000. The lawsuit was originally filed in October against Sean “Diddy” Combs, but was refiled Sunday to include Carter as a defendant. And there’s a reason for that, according to Jay Z.
The Allegations
The lawsuit alleges that in 2000, Jane Doe was raped by both Combs and Carter at a house party after the VMAs. Doe says she was dropped off at Radio City Music Hall, where she approached limousine drivers in an attempt to attend the event or an after-party. One driver, allegedly working for Combs, invited her to an after-party, saying she “fit what Diddy was looking for.”
The suit states she later arrived at a private residence, where she was required to sign what she believed was a nondisclosure agreement. Once inside, she described seeing celebrities and attendees using marijuana and cocaine. After accepting a drink that left her feeling woozy and disoriented, she alleges that Carter and Combs entered a room where she was resting. According to the suit, Combs said, “You are ready to party!” before Carter allegedly assaulted her while Combs and another unnamed celebrity looked on.
Doe also alleges that Combs assaulted her afterward but stopped when she resisted. She says she managed to flee the house and called her father from a gas station.
Legal Responses
In a pointed statement issued Sunday evening, Carter dismissed the allegations as “idiotic,” calling for criminal charges rather than civil litigation if the claims had merit.
