Porsha Williams Claims Ex Simon Guobadia’s Attempts to ‘Illegally’ Enter U.S. Caused His ICE Detention

Porsha Williams is NOT holding back! In newly filed divorce documents, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star is making it crystal clear—Simon Guobadia’s immigration troubles are his own fault, and she’s not about to let his ICE detention stall their divorce. Porsha is demanding that the proceedings move forward with or without him, exposing even more drama behind the scenes of their messy split.

Simon Guobadia, a Nigerian-born businessman and estranged husband of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He is currently held at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.

Guobadia’s immigration challenges trace back to his initial arrival in the United States on August 11, 1982, on a six-month visitor visa. After overstaying, he was declared deportable in 1985. Despite this, he re-entered the U.S. in 1986 under another six-month visa, only to overstay once again. In 1987, he was arrested for bank and credit card fraud, leading to his deportation in 1992. However, he returned to the U.S. a month later.

In 2016, Guobadia applied for U.S. citizenship, but his application was denied due to his previous unlawful status. Subsequent attempts to secure naturalization were also unsuccessful, with the most recent denial occurring in July 2022.

Guobadia’s detention aligns with President Trump’s mass deportation plan, enacted through executive orders earlier this year. This policy aims to deport undocumented immigrants to their home countries.

Amid these developments, Porsha Williams expressed her feelings on Instagram, stating, “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”

Williams and Guobadia’s relationship began in April 2021, leading to an engagement in May of the same year. They married in November 2022 but faced marital challenges, culminating in Williams filing for divorce in February 2024. Their divorce proceedings have been contentious, with Williams recently securing temporary sole possession of their marital residence and the right to film within it.

In November 2024, Guobadia filed a lawsuit against Williams, alleging defamation due to her social media posts and seeking $75,000 in damages.

Guobadia’s legal and immigration challenges highlight the complexities individuals face within the U.S. immigration system, especially those with prior legal issues. His detention underscores the ongoing debates surrounding immigration policies and enforcement in the United States.

As of now, Guobadia remains in ICE custody, awaiting further legal proceedings that will determine his residency status in the U.S. The outcome of his case may set precedents for similar situations in the future, reflecting the intricate balance between immigration enforcement and individual rights.
